I am one week into a new set of behaviors. They are, by name: Asking For Help and Letting Go of The Outcome. It takes practice, my friends, on the daily. Last Tuesday, I put up a page asking for assistance from anyone and everyone, in making a dream of mine come true. It already has come true, in a sense. The original intention was to make something about, for and with the people I love. Today, I can say that I have met that goal, and am now trying to share what we've made with as many people as possible.
For anyone new to the fold, here's a summary: I made a record about my families of choice and origin, aptly titled Family Album. It will be released on February 22nd through my own label, Trimming The Shield Records. We are raising money to make a video for the first single, 'True Story'.

Some wonderful people have already made pledges to the project, while others have lent wisdom and expertise on specific areas of the process. I am so grateful for all of it, and find myself constantly surprised by the generosity of those I am encountering, every day. I will pay it forward. I am including the lyrics to the song here, for you to read and enjoy. Once again, I am sending gratitude into the starry night, and whispering to myself, "receive", while eating delicious vegan cookies.
Thanks for listening.

true story
I’m named for platform shoes
my mother saw on my Aunt Nancy’s feet
oh, Bicentennial, we hope you’re ready for this baby’s dreams
(why would I lie to you?
ask anyone, they’ll say the story’s true)
I gave my heart away
at age thirteen, in my World History class
I know him to this day
he’s still a big part of my circus act
(now, would I lie to you?
ask anyone, they'll say the story’s true)
and it keeps going
I gave up on knowing
why I have to live a life that’s so fantastically outside
of what one thinks of as reality
I learned to play guitar
ten years before I learned to change the strings
I wished upon a star
and here I am surrounded by such things
I made by heart and hand
there’s a magic to, “I think I can”
and it keeps going
I gave up on knowing
why I have to live a life that’s so fantastically outside
of what one thinks of as reality
I had a song to sing
I said, “make music with me”… he said, “no”
I put down everything
and wrote an album about letting go
now my heart is free,
and don't you know that man is loving me.
